Is pumpkin only famous for carving on Halloween?

No, pumpkin is not only famous for carving on Halloween but it has wonders inside it. Whenever we hear the word Halloween, our mind automatically thinks about pumpkin.

Let’s go a little back in the history. Pumpkin is used for Thanksgiving and Halloween decoration by carving them into Jack-o-lantern. Why is that so? What is the reason behind carving? Well, the name jack-o-lantern dates back to 17th century, which literally means “man with a lantern.” The whole concept behind this jack-o-lantern is that a man is watching at night. There is an Irish myth about Stingy Jack who tricked the Devil. Somehow when Jack died, God didn’t allow him into heaven, and the Devil didn’t let him into hell, so Jack was convicted to stay on earth for eternity. From then on people in Ireland started carving demonic faces out of turnips to frighten Jack’s wandering soul. When, Irish people moved to U. S, they began carving demonic faces from pumpkins.

What are the wonders of pumpkin?

Many people tend to think that pumpkins are just for Halloween decoration or pie filling but you may want to reconsider it again of this plump, orange fruit. Besides that orange skin and seeds, pumpkin has a lot of benefits. Pumpkin is a fruit which is low in sodium, calories and fat. It is high in fiber and nutrient dense enriched with vitamins and minerals. It is a good source of B-carotene and also a powerful antioxidant.

As we all know, that the consumption of fruits and vegetables reduces the risk of many health problems. Many studies have shown that pumpkin is good for heart because it contains high amount of fiber and low amount of sodium. It significantly reduces your LDL (bad) cholesterol thus reducing your blood pressure and protecting your heart from various health diseases.

It also known to reduce the risk of cancer, delay aging and make skin wrinkle-free. If anyone wants to delay aging and make your skin wrinkle-free then you should definitely add pumpkin in your diet because it is rich in antioxidant and keeps free radicals at bay.

There is also enough evidence that proves that pumpkins are good for eye health. It contains antioxidants like vitamin c, vitamin e and beta-carotene that helps prevent degenerative damage to the eye.

According to study, it also provides immunity boost because it contains vitamin c and beta-carotene thus, making you stronger to fight with those ugly diseases.

Other than reducing the risk of many health problems, pumpkin curbs weight loss. As is packed with fiber, fiber provide satiety due to this people eat less and thereby shed pounds.

After all, pumpkins can be very useful in so many ways other than just carving them on Halloween. It is loaded with micro nutrients and macro nutrients that will make you feel full and energized.
